Soompi & Viki Staff Talk: Which K-Drama Character Would You Like As Your High School Teacher?

For the newest edition of Soompi & Viki Staff Talk, we take on a new sort of topic. Our staff members discuss the “what if?” of going back to high school and having our favorite K-drama characters as our teachers.
Here are the characters picked by some of our staff members:
Sala: Cha Eun Jae from “Dr. Romantic 2” and “Dr. Romantic 3”
The “Dr. Romantic” series is full of wise mentor figures to learn from, with Han Suk Kyu’s titular role as Dr. Kim being of course the perfect fit for this role. Having watched all three seasons of the show, there is one other character I would love to have had as my teacher: the kindhearted and passionate cardiothoracic surgeon Cha Eun Jae (Lee Sung Kyung). Not only is Cha Eun Jae a compassionate mentor, but she is also a relatable figure who overcame her internal struggles and works to put in her best every day despite her flaws. Having also learned from the best, she would make a great inspiration for all her students!
Winnie: Baek Seung Yoo from “Melancholia”
I’m really not great at math, but I think I would definitely try harder if Baek Seung Yoo (Lee Do Hyun) from “Melancholia” is my math teacher. Baek Seung Yoo is a math genius who began attending MIT at the age of 10 but lost his connection with math due to various circumstances. However, his life changes completely again when he meets a special teacher, and he regains his connection with math to become someone who would truly be a great teacher.
Ginny: Jung Joon Hyung from “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo”
I would want Jung Joon Hyung (Nam Joo Hyuk) from “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo” as a PE teacher! Jung Joon Hyung is a talented swimmer struggling due to trauma from a past incident, but he manages to overcome his issues. His courage and athletic abilities as well as his encouraging personality would really make him a perfect PE teacher!
“Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo”:
Bae Ta Mi (Im Soo Jung) is a businesswoman in the IT industry in “Search: WWW.” If she was a business teacher, the lessons she would bring to the classroom are universally applicable. Her ambition, resilience, integrity, emotional intelligence, and ability to break stereotypes are qualities we can all strive to embody. If Bae Ta Mi was my teacher, I think I would learn not only the subject but also life lessons that could help guide me to success in all my endeavors!
Heejo: Shin Woo Yeo from “My Roommate Is a Gumiho”
If I were to choose a drama character to be a high school teacher, I would want Shin Woo Yeo (Jang Ki Yong) from “My Roommate Is a Gumiho” as a history teacher. Who could teach history better than someone who has lived through those times? Being 999-years-old, he is the perfect person for the job, and he also became a history professor in the drama because of this! It might be a little difficult to focus in class because of his beauty though…
“My Roommate Is a Gumiho”:
Yeon: Park Joon Young from “Do You Like Brahms?”
“Do You Like Brahms?” pianist Park Joon Young (Kim Min Jae) is the high school music teacher of my dreams. Park Joon Young is a world famous pianist who competes in all the top competitions, so he obviously has more than enough talent to be a music teacher, but he also has the perfect personality for it. He is extremely gentle and caring and thinks of others before himself, but he is also firm when he needs to be. There’s really no reason to not want him as a music teacher!
Seo In Guk And Lee Sung Kyung In Talks To Lead New Romance Drama By “She Was Pretty” Writer
Seo In Guk and Lee Sung Kyung may lead a new romance drama together!
On September 1, Xportsnews reported that Seo In Guk and Lee Sung Kyung will star in the new romance drama “In Your Splendid Season” (literal title) as the male and female lead characters Sun Woo Chan and Song Ha Ran.
In response to the reports, Seo In Guk’s agency Story J Company and Lee Sung Kyung’s agency YG Entertainment each shared that while it’s true that both actors received offers to star in the drama, they are still currently reviewing the offers.
“In Your Splendid Season” tells the story of a man who loses both his hearing and memory due to an accident and his journey after meeting a woman who becomes his guiding light. They initially cross paths in the middle of a cold winter and fate reunites them seven years later, once again during the winter season. Together, they bring a radiant spring to each other’s lives.
The drama is written by Jo Sung Hee of “30 but 17” (also known as “Still 17”), “She Was Pretty,” and “King of High School” (also known as “High School King of Savvy”).
Seo In Guk was offered the role of Sun Woo Chan, a bright and lively animator who works at an American animation studio. Despite his cheerful energy and positive façade, he’s a mysterious figure who hides a lot of secrets.
Lee Sung Kyung was offered to portray Song Ha Ran, the eldest among three siblings and a renowned designer. Her natural artistic sense, creativity, and work ethic have earned her a solid reputation in the industry. While she gets along well with everyone, she secretly hopes to not form any special bonds with anyone.
Seo In Guk is currently filming his upcoming TVING drama “Death’s Game,” while Lee Sung Kyung recently wrapped up her hit drama “Dr. Romantic 3.” Stay tuned for updates!
